Case Study
Contactless Payment Solution Gwesty Gadlys Hotel
Gwesty Gadlys Hotel required electric vehicle charging points at their hotel in response to employee and visitors demand. The hotel is situated in a very popular, picturesque tourist spot in North Wales. They wanted to be able to charge customers for the use of the chargers while avoiding a membership based arrangement. The owner was very clear that they did not want the item to be a capital purchase. Rapid Charge provided a fully funded solution for the hotel while offering a revenue share of the money generated from the charger.
Rapid Charge installed two Delta AC Mini Plus 7kW charge points with the Rapid Charge e-pay solution enabled – the first of its kind in the UK. Bespoke branding designed and applied to charge point pedestal. The hotel is now using Rapid Charge’s secure software portal to control access to EV charging, monitor usage and have the option to set custom electricity tariffs and recharge electricity usage. Rapid Charge’s Charge point Monitoring Team can monitor the LAN connected charge points and remotely perform simple fixes and issue down the line updates. This reduces the need for on-site maintenance and minimises inconvenience.
The hotel has a clear view of who is using the charge points, by using their personal secure login credentials to Rapid Charge’s back office where they can monitor how much revenue they have generated from the chargers. Drivers have praised the clearly marked and signed EV Zone, which has meant the bays are seldom blocked by non-charging drivers. Furthermore, Delta’s charge points are internet enabled, either via LAN, WIFI or 4G, which means Rapid Charge’s in-house charge point monitoring team is able to troubleshoot many problems remotely, often before clients are aware of any issues. Problems can be resolved more efficiently, compared with ‘dumb’ charge points, as the need for on-site maintenance is reduced.
Rapid Charge uploaded the chargers to Zap-Map to make EV drivers aware of the charge points and any relevant information related to the use of the chargers. This is an additional marketing tool for the hotel that comes as part of the Rapid Charge solution.
Rapid Charge, who offer a fully managed service from initial consultation through to surveying, installation and maintenance, were able to provide a state of the art charging units that enables a secure and tracked usage arrangement. The hotel is extremely proud of its location and aesthetics and we were able to provide them with a bespoke designed charging pedestal to mount the chargers which fit in well with the scenery. Drivers are able to charge their vehicles overnight while they stay at the hotel. The 7kW charge point is a perfect solution as it will charge a car to 100% battery capacity between 5-6 hours. To prevent the parking bays being occupied by petrol or diesel drivers, Rapid Charge worked closely with the hotel to design and create a dedicated EV Zone, with painted bays, tyre stops and clear signage notifying employees and visitors that the parking spaces were for EV drivers only. Drivers have to provide their own Type 2 cable for the charger. Drivers have praised the easy use of the charge points and the convenience of a contactless payment solution.
